Trump Warned Medvedev of Looming War Threat

US President Donald Trump has hit back at Russian official Dmitry Medvedev for threatening war.

“Tell Medvedev, the failed former president of Russia who seems to think he’s still in power, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social network.

Medvedev lashed out at Trump on Monday, warning that the pressure he’s putting on the Kremlin over the war in Ukraine could lead to a wider conflict — not just between Russia and Ukraine, but also between Russia and the US.

“50 days, 10 provinces… You should remember two things: Russia is not Israel, and neither is Iran. Every new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war. Not with Ukraine, but with your own country. That’s how it was with Sleepy Joe,” Medvedev said on the X platform.

His statements came after Trump on Monday threatened Russia with sanctions and additional tariffs if it does not end the war in Ukraine within “about 10 provinces in 12 days,” which is significantly earlier than the previously announced deadline.

In his post, Trump also dismissed the idea of economic cooperation with Russia or India, stating: “I don’t care what India does with Russia. Together we can destroy our dead economies, as far as I’m concerned.”

He added that the US has “very little trade with India” due to its “extremely high tariffs,” and stressed: “It’s similar with Russia — we have almost no economic exchange. Let it stay that way.”

Trump on Tuesday announced a 25 percent tariff on imports from India, starting August 1, with additional punitive measures. He accused New Delhi of unfair trade practices and close cooperation with Russia in the energy and military sectors.

In response, Medvedev said on Thursday that Trump’s nervous reaction was actually proof of the correctness of his words.

“If the statements of the former Russian president cause such anxiety in the strict American president, it means that Russia is absolutely right and will continue on its path,” Medvedev said.

Meanwhile, in New Delhi, the leader of the main opposition party Rahul Gandhi reacted to Trump’s statement on the Indian economy, saying: “He is right.”

“Everyone knows that the Indian economy is dead – except the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) and the Finance Minister (Nirmala Sitharaman). I am glad that President Trump pointed out this fact,” Gandhi told reporters outside parliament.
