United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he will request an investigation into the ties between sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and several prominent figures, including former President Bill Clinton.
Posting via the U.S. social media company “Truth Social,” Trump repeated the accusation that the Democrats are pushing the “Epstein hoax” to divert attention from failures, including the record federal government shutdown that ended earlier this week, with several Democratic representatives having supported the Republican spending bill.
“I will ask the A.G. (Attorney General) Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots in the FBI, to investigate the involvement and relationship of Jeffrey Epstein with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions,” he said.
Comparing this issue with the accusations that former officials tried to link him to Russian election interference, Trump claimed that records show that these people, and many others, spent a significant part of their lives with Epstein.
Trump’s comments came after the release of more than 20.000 pages of documents from Epstein’s estate, including e-mails in which he claimed to possess damaging information about President Donald Trump.
The release followed after a discharge petition in Congress reached the threshold of 218 signatures, which forced the House of Representatives to vote on releasing all remaining Epstein files.
Epstein, a financier and convicted sex offender, was found dead in his jail cell in New York in 2019 while awaiting trial. Authorities declared the death a suicide, which the Department of Justice confirmed in July, although many Americans, including Trump supporters, still claim there was a cover-up.
