The library was officially opened by the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey Ali Babacan, the Director of Ziraat Bank Hüseyin Aydin, Director of TKC “Yunus Emre” prof. dr. Hayati Devli, Ministers of Sarajevo Canton Ivica Šarić, Minister of Education, Culture and Youth Damir Marjanović, and the Mayor of Stari Grad Ibrahim Hadžibajrić.

According to the Director of the “Yunus Emre” center, the library is opening as part of the project ‘100 libraries of Turkey’, with the goal to better understand the culture of the two countries.

“The library in Sarajevo is very important for Turkey because we have a joint history’’, said Develi.

In BiH, this is the fourth “Turkish library’’. The other libraries are at universities in Mostar, Zenica and Tuzla.

Develi said that the initial library fund with 2.000 books will gradually increase, and students, journalists and children will be offered research material on Turkish history, language, culture and economy.

“The opening of the ‘Turkish library’ has as its goal to foster the historical and cultural ties in BiH that are already established’’, said Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, with the hope that it would be for the benefit of all.

In cooperation with “Yunus Emre” and Turkish Ziraat Bank, an exhibition of photographs entitled “20 years of Turkish Military Mission” opened today with the organization of Anadolija Agency.

There are 40 photographs at the exhibition that reflect the activities of the Turkish military, that has been working for 20 years on preserving peace and stability in BiH as part of EUFOR.
