The opening ceremony of two centers for healthy aging was held in Modriča and Domaljevac-Šamac in order to improve the living conditions of elderly people.
The services of the centers will used by about 3,000 elderly people from Modriča and Domaljevac in Šamac.
Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina Zahira Virani said she was happy to attend the opening of the centers that were restored with the help of the European Commission and the two UN agencies working together.
“The centers are restored as part of the aid program for flood recovery,” she said.
A representative from the Office of the UN Population Fund in BiH Doina Bologa pointed out that this is a great event for the whole country.
It is believed that the centers will help people of all generations to combat loneliness.
“The operation of the centers will not cost a lot, provided that employees act with the same enthusiasm as did today,” said Bologa.
The centers have been renovated within the UN Program for Flood Recovery entitled “Today, for us” in order to improve the living conditions of the elderly, as well as vulnerable groups.
Department for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection of the European Commission (ECHO) has funded the restoration of the centers and training of employees in the amount of approximately 150,000 US dollars.
The total value of the UN Program for Flood Recovery “Today, for us” is 14.8 million US dollars.
