Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović and member of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić spoke with the Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres at the UN headquarters in New York.

At the headquarters of this international organization, Bećirović and Komšić thanked UN Secretary General António Guterres for his previous support for activities and measures in the fight against denial of genocide, hate speech and glorification of war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

UN Secretary General António Guterres was pointed out to important facts related to the proposed resolution on Srebrenica in the UN General Assembly. It was emphasized that the final judgments of the highest courts of the UN (the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia) confirmed that genocide was committed against Bosniaks in the UN safe zone of Srebrenica. The importance of the UN General Assembly adopting a resolution on the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica committed in 1995 was highlighted. They emphasized that the UN, by adopting the resolution on July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica committed in 1995, will point out the importance of promoting the truth about the committed genocide.

Guterres emphasized that any form of genocide denial is absolutely unacceptable, and he expressed his full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the conversation with UN Secretary General António Guterres, Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović and member of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić pointed out that the main goal of the resolution is to build peace, security and trust in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. Also, it was emphasized that the adoption of the resolution is important for preserving the credibility of the UN and pointing out the importance of respecting the judgments of the UN courts, drawing lessons from the failure of the UN in preventing the genocide against the Bosniaks in Srebrenica, as well as pointing out the global importance of prevention genocide.

They also recalled the words of UN Secretary General António Guterres, who said on the 25th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement, among other things, that building a future of peace requires facing the past, the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced.
