Two earthquakes shook Turkey in the afternoon: the first measured 6.2 on the Richter scale, and the second 5.5.

The quake, taking place at 12:49 [09:49 GMT] on Wednesday in the Marmara Sea off the coast of Istanbul’s Silvri area, registered a preliminary 6.2 magnitude, reports Turkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Authority (AFAD).

It was at a depth of 10km (6.21 miles), according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).

According to EMSC, the epicenter was near Istanbul.

Citizens who felt the earthquake wrote on the EMSC website that it was a strong shaking of the ground that lasted five to 10 seconds.

“It lasted a short time, but it shook hard”, “It was such a strong earthquake that we went outside”, “The building shook, we were very scared”, were some of the comments on the EMSC website.

Recall that this country was hit by a deadly earthquake on February 6, 2023, which claimed more than 53,537 lives and injured more than 107,213 while assessment teams estimated 2.3 million buildings damaged or collapsed in the earthquake zone.

The triple seismic attack, with its epicenter in Kahramanmaraş, left indelible consequences, Klix.ba writes.
