Two young men were arrested in front of the Parliament in Belgrade, but the reason for their arrest is not yet known. The protest has officially ended.

A group of people gathered near the Serbian Parliament threw various objects and fireworks at the student camp in Pionirski Park at around 7 pm this evening, Beta news agency reports.

According to a reporter, everything happened at the protective fence of Pionirski Park, outside the Parliament premises. Student security guards quickly gathered, tried to calm the group that was throwing fireworks, and then pushed them away.

The area in front of the fence near the park is now deserted, and there is no one within 20 meters of the fence, Beta news agency reporter reports.

The group of people who threw fireworks has moved away and is chanting insulting slogans directed at Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. On the other hand, police in riot gear gathered with raised shields.

A Beta news agency reporter reports that bikers are also gathering in the area to support the students in the blockade.

Students in the blockade spoke after the incident in Pionirski Park, where bottles and oysters were thrown, and confirmed that the protest is no longer a student protest. They also appealed to the citizens to disperse.

“This protest is no longer a student protest. The security guards have removed the markers. Everyone is asked to leave the area around the Assembly,” they wrote on.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia announced that there were incidents and fights among some of the participants of today’s protest at several locations in the center of Belgrade, who repeatedly attacked members of the police, trying to prevent them from performing their duties and to cause larger disturbances.

Members of the MUP are taking all measures and actions within their competence to prevent further escalation of these incidents, preserve public order and peace, protect citizens and preserve security, the press release states.
