U.S. Embassy Statement on the Conduct of a Referendum

embassy of tge USAThe U.S. Embassy position on the conduct of a referendum with regard to the RS Law on Holidays has been clear and consistent.

Acting in disregard of a decision of the Constitutional Court blatantly violates the rule of law, and we count on competent institutions to address that violation in accordance with the laws of BiH, while we evaluate appropriate consequences.

We believe the true will of the people across this country is first and foremost to improve their quality of life, while creating better opportunities for their children and generations to come.  That goal cannot be achieved through symbolic referenda, political posturing, and nationalistic rhetoric, but only through diligent work on critical social, political, and economic reforms that will open new doors for BiH.  The United States remains committed to helping BiH progress and better serve its citizens.
