UK Ambassador’Statement on the ICTY Verdict in the case of Jadranko Prlic et al.

The UK Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina notes the judgment of the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the case of Prlic et al.

The death of Slobodan Praljak should not cloud the fact that the defendants in the case used their positions of power to commit unspeakable crimes.

Our thoughts remain primarily with the victims and their families.  Although it cannot heal the pain that they continue to endure, the ICTY’s verdict sends a clear message that the perpetrators of atrocities will be held accountable for their actions.

We urge everyone to respect the rulings of the Court, and to turn to the future in a spirit of peace and reconciliation.
