Ukrainian Parliament Ratifies Mineral Agreement with the USA

Ukraine’s parliament on Thursday ratified an agreement with the US on the exploitation of Ukraine’s natural resources, which Kiev hopes could pave the way for new US military aid.

“The Ukrainian parliament has ratified the historic agreement on the economic partnership between Ukraine and the United States,” Ukrainian Economy Minister Yulia Sviridenko announced on IX.

The document refers to the extraction of minerals, oil and gas in Ukraine.

It does not include security guarantees for Kiev, although he insisted on it.

Sviridenko previously said she hoped the deal would allow Ukraine to receive new military aid from the administration of President Donald Trump, who wants to end the war between Ukraine and Russia.

The agreement was signed at the end of April after several weeks of tensions between Kiev and Washington, which culminated in a verbal confrontation between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office at the end of February.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and the two countries have been at war ever since.
