Local civil protection units in about ten towns have warned citizens that the water is not suitable for drinking. In the Tuzla Canton, due to 11 damaged power lines, the outskirts of the city, which is home to around 11,000 residents, were without electricity during the day. However, the most difficult situation is in the Una-Sana Canton, or Krajina. The municipalities of Bužim and Velika Kladuša, as well as the cities of Bosanska Krupa, Cazin and most of Bihać, Čelinac, Prijedor and Novi Grad, were left without this energy source. As a result, problems with water supply and telecommunications also occurred. The key to the problem is a breakdown in the power line that supplies this part of our country with electricity from Croatia.
Citizens comment on the situation
Citizens shared their impressions: “It’s terrible without electricity, but what can we do, no traffic lights, no shops, nothing. It’s good that they managed to fix something, in any case, thank you to them, the teams were on the ground last night.”
“Considering the situation in which we find ourselves and the whole country, this is nothing abnormal, but a regular occurrence. We, the citizens, only need to be patient and let the services do their work, when the weather conditions are like this.”
“This is sudden, we didn’t expect this. Spring is like that, it happened and what can you do. They are working to the best of their ability, I guess it will be better.”
Work of health services in difficult conditions
Health centers also work in difficult conditions. Dom zdravlja Bihać uses a small aggregate to provide electricity for more important devices.
“We don’t have electricity, our power supply is very weak, but despite this difficult work, we try to function normally, examine patients and work as best we can,” said Dr. Melisa Pečenković, specialist in emergency medicine in the Emergency Medical Service of the Bihać Health Center.
Firefighters on the ground
All competent teams are on the ground to repair the malfunctions. In the past 24 hours, the fire department of Bihać had five technical interventions.
“There were no fires, we had cars stuck in the snow, trees on the road that we removed so that cars could pass. Basically, there were five technical interventions. It is still under control, we expect that when the snow melts there will be few major problems, but we are ready for that situation as well. The pumps behind my back are ready, we are always there 24 hours a day at the service of our citizens,” emphasizes Rasim Islamović, a firefighter from Bihać.
Water level of rivers
The precipitation also caused a slight rise in the water level of the rivers in the Una-Sana Canton, but the situation is not alarming for now.
