UNDP and Partners Signed a Contract on Implementation of Activities Related to HIV and AIDS in BiH

undpUnited Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and 12 governmental and non-governmental partners will sign tomorrow in Sarajevo the contract in the amount of 12 million KM in context of the implementation of the activities in the field of HIV and AIDS in BiH until the end of 2015.

The press release states that in BiH since end of 2006 there is a comprehensive program of support for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of people with AIDS, supported by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and managed by the UNDP under the authority of the CCM for HIV and TB formed in BiH 2004.

It has been stated that this provides the means to continue the support for the above mentioned activities until the end of 2015, and a special emphasis is given to the protection of the population at risk.

UNDP in the last two years through this program, together with partners, reached more than 4.000 drug users, more than 9.000 Sex workers and 12.000 men who have sex with men. These preventive services are also received from 770 prisoners.

Through specialized partner organizations the program reached 12.500 thousand Roma since 2010 until now, and 1.777 health care providers have passed suitably trainings regarding these infectious diseases.

Also, one of the components of the program is to support centers that provide service replacement therapy in eight cities across the country covering about 1.000 customers.

The program for the last seven years has secured a free and verifiable counseling and testing for HIV and hepatitis C virus that is performed from the professional health care providers.

It is been stated that this service is available in 22 centers across the country. Testing is performed by contemporary tests of saliva, and the result is achieved in 20 minutes.

UNDP is the global development network of the United Nations, an advocate of change that connects countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better future.

The Signing the contract is announced for 19th July at 11 am at the UN building in Sarajevo.
