University of Sarajevo Holds Ceremonial Promotion of 63 PhD Graduates

Yesterday, the Sarajevo National Theatre hosted the ceremonial promotion of 63 PhDs from the University of Sarajevo. At the ceremony, awards were presented to students who have completed the highest level of education at the University of Sarajevo, future leaders of the academic and artistic life of the University of Sarajevo. This act also concluded the December Days of the University of Sarajevo.

“At a time when universities and education are under attack, on the one hand, by those who understand very well the importance of free thought and want to silence it, but on the other hand, by those ignorant people who want to tell and show you, the educated, that force does not recognize knowledge and that they can do whatever “force” tells them, you must always keep in mind that your dignity and integrity depend on your critical thinking. On your decision not to be just silent observers. Your and our future will depend on how much you are able to turn critical thinking and the lessons learned into an everyday dimension of your success,” said Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, Rector of the University of Sarajevo, to the doctoral students at today’s award ceremony.

He added that the University began this academic year with the program “Responsibility for the Future”, which is not just a phrase but a clearly assumed institutional obligation, and the message that universities must be more than educational and scientific institutions, but a place of free consciousness and thought.

The new generation of doctoral students of the University of Sarajevo from all faculties, with this act, crowned their many years of engagement and proved their dedication to the professions to which they belong, with the aim of their further development through all their future challenges. After the award ceremony, students from the Sarajevo High School of Music performed, closing this event with a suitable musical program.
