The Ambassador of the US to BiH Patrick Moon gave out certificates today at the ceremony to participants of the basketball camp for high schoolers from BiH. This was held in Ilidža and was part of the framework of the International Program for Sports Initiatives.
The funding for this project was provided by the US State Bureau for Education and Culture and the US Embassy in Sarajevo with the Center for Intercultural Education and Development of Georgetown University in Washington and in cooperation with the BiH partner Association of Citizens ”Nešto više”.
The camp is the first component and presents a mutual exchange of young leaders in sports that will emphasize leadership, teamwork, tolerance and interethnic cooperation.
The second phase of the project will be held in June, and includes a twenty day visit to the US for twelve trainers. They will meet with experts in New York and Washington who lead programs for young people at risk in order to hone their skills and to develop new methods that will be applied when working with young basketball players. Knowledge gained form the project will be applied to other communities.
