Court-of-Bosnia-and-HerzegovinaThe U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Bosnia and Herzegovina donated the equipment worth 145 310 Dollars to strengthen prosecutorial capacity and to fight crime and corruption in BiH.

“This is the third time that USAID donates equipment to prosecutor’s offices, consisting of computer equipment – scanners, copier machines, shelves for keeping records, all that is required for the normal functioning of the prosecutor’s offices,” said the Head of the USAID project for the development of the justice sector Zlatko Osmanović.

USAID Justice Sector Development Project II works with the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, ministries of justice, courts and prosecutor offices, to promote independence and accountability of the judiciary.

The project also works with citizens and organizations to advocate for stronger judicial institutions and greater engagement in the promotion of the rule of law.

“Creating credible, effective and independent judicial institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina is essential for strengthening the rule of law and protection of citizens’ rights,” said the President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Novković.

“The High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council for many years has collaborated with USAID and their help is most important to us at the beginning of the reform of the judiciary. The donated equipment is significant and useful for the work of HJPC and all other judicial institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Novković.

As the country strives to get closer to Euro-Atlantic integration, it is necessary to provide a unified judicial system and harmonization of the legal framework with EU standards.

To date, the U.S. Government, primarily through USAID, has provided more than 1.6 billion dollars in aid to economic, democratic and social progress in Bosnia and Herzegovina; it is said in the statement.
