Vienna and Sarajevo will continue their long-standing cooperation this year at the two-day Vienna Science Days conference.
Taking into account the goals of sustainability and the global challenges of today, representatives of the city administrations, the Canton of Sarajevo and the universities of both cities will discuss topics relevant to the development of the city.
The conference will be opened by representatives of the city councils of Vienna and Sarajevo in order to emphasize the importance of cooperation at the city level and the role of cities as initiators of change.
The first day of the conference, September 27, was called “Science Day” because the main speakers were university representatives and their contribution to communal topics. The focus of the first topic “Green energy” is the reduction of dependence on gas and alternative energy sources for city heating.
The second program item “Urban agriculture” is dedicated to the potential of cultivation in the urban environment and its role in the circular economy.
The second day of the “Vienna Day” conference is dedicated to exchange at the management level. The first panel “Transparent Administration” will cover aspects of citizen participation and digitization as essential prerequisites for the functioning of sustainable cities.
The last theme of the conference, “Public transport to climate neutrality”, will highlight the importance of developing new urban transport lines in order to reduce emissions of harmful gases from car traffic and improve infrastructure.
Among the panelists are representatives of the City of Vienna, the City of Sarajevo, the Ministry of Transport of the Canton of Sarajevo, the Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of the Canton of Sarajevo, and from the university level, the Technical University of Vienna (TU Wien), the University of Natural Resources and Biosciences (BOKU Wien), Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture and Food and Faculty of Economics of the University of Sarajevo.
Applications for the conference, which will be held in Sarajevo’s Swissotel, will be opened soon, and participation is free of charge.
