Violent demonstrations erupted in central Dublin after a knife attack in which five people were wounded.
Demonstrators gathered near the site of the attack. Police used shields and batons after the crowd damaged several police vehicles.
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said additional police forces had been deployed.
The police blamed a “crazy, hooligan faction” for the violence.
“We ask people to act responsibly and not listen to the misinformation and rumors that are being spread on social media. We know what happened, but the motive is absolutely unclear,” said Police Chief Drew Harris.
A five-year-old girl and a woman in her 30s were seriously injured.
Police detained a man in his 50s in connection with the attack, Srna reports.
