“Brčko stands uniquely positioned within Bosnia and Herzegovina to spearhead conversations about the transition to green energy. With an absence of existing power production capacities, Brčko is an open space for innovative thinking and the integration of modern technologies. Brčko’s unique ability to enact its own legislation also puts it in a key position to lead the charge towards a green transformation, not just for itself but as an inspiring model for the entire country. Taking full advantage of this ability is not just about securing a stable and clean power supply; it is also about catalyzing a wave of new investments and employment opportunities that will benefit the entire community,” said Jonathan Mennuti, Principal Deputy of High Representative.
He added that is an incredible opportunity for Brčko and Bosnia and Herzegovina on their trajectory towards EU integration and a sustainable energy future. It requires a concerted effort by the entire District administration, a unified push toward a singular goal. This means not only enacting necessary legislation but also optimizing the support from international donors and partners.
The prospect of Brčko leading the charge towards a greener future is not just a local ambition but a collective responsibility. It’s about setting a precedent, inspiring change, and contributing to a global movement towards sustainability.
“Let us work hand in hand, bridging gaps, and leveraging resources to turn this vision into a reality. This conference is an important part of that process and I congratulate its organizers and thank its participants. I look forward to hearing the results and conclusions of the conference and working together to help propel Brčko and Bosnia and Herzegovina towards an energy future that is not only greener but also more prosperous and resilient,” he concluded.
