European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that Brussels wants the Western Balkans in the EU, that it has a clear agenda for that and that the accession process is underway.
“We have a clear plan for the Western Balkans. It is important that we work together on economic growth. The EU should open the doors to the single market, and the Western Balkans should carry out reforms and then have additional Union investments in the region,” von der Leyen told RTS.
European Council President Charles Michel said that the Western Balkan countries know what they need to do in the EU accession process, citing the implementation of reforms, the fight against corruption, the rule of law.
“We are ready to help. It is important that the steps are in the direction of the EU,” Michel told RTS.
Von der Leyen and Michel are attending the European Political Community Summit in Budapest.
