Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said he will not attend the funeral of Hague war crimes convict Ratko Mladić in Belgrade on Monday due to official obligations.
The former Bosnian Serb army commander died last week in a Hague court prison where he was serving a life sentence for war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the 1995 genocide of Bosniaks in Srebrenica.
His remains were flown to Belgrade on Thursday by a Serbian government airlift and will be buried in a family grave.
Vučić said the family had made a decision about the location and manner of the funeral, which he would not attend due to the visit of the Uzbek president.
“I spoke with the Mladić family, it is their choice, what they will do and how they will do it. I have an official visit on Monday all day, scheduled four months ago,” Vučić told reporters, Hina reported.
The International Criminal Court for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague sentenced Ratko Mladić to life imprisonment for genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of the laws and customs of war committed during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
