The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated that cooperation with the Republika Srpska (RS) in all areas is important for Serbia, adding that the people in that entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) can always count on Serbia’s support.

Vucic, at a meeting of the Council for Cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and RS in an expanded format on Saturday in Belgrade, said that the council is more than a formal body, adding that gatherings in this format confirm that cooperation between Serbia and RS is a lasting value and one of the pillars of overall policy for peace and stability in the region.

He said that the Declaration on the Protection of National and Political Rights and the Joint Future of the Serbian People, adopted on June 8th, 2024, is the foundation on which Serbia and RS are building a common future, and that it is not directed against anyone but is for the benefit of everyone in the region.

“I do not want to take a defensive position and explain to someone that in doing so we are not violating the principles of international public law, the United Nations (UN) Charter, or UN resolutions. We have adhered to the letter of the Dayton Peace Agreement, taken care of it, and respected all others. We have always been attacked, accused of things we never did or that never even crossed our minds to do,” he said.

He expressed interest in the works on the Raca-Bijeljina highway and preparations for the construction of an airport in Trebinje, as well as information on what could be done in the future regarding the gas interconnector Serbia-RS-BiH.

“What is it that we can do for RS in all other spheres of social life, including financial support from the Republic of Serbia, and especially in the energy sector, what can we jointly do, what can we jointly build,” said Vucic.

Among others, the session was attended by the President of the Serbian Assembly Ana Brnabic, the President of the National Assembly of RS (NARS) Nenad Stevandic, the Prime Minister of Serbia Djuro Macut with members of the government, Savo Minic, Prime Minister of RS at the proposal of Milorad Dodik, whose appointment is the subject of an appeal to the Constitutional Court of BiH, the member of the Presidency of BiH Zeljka Cvijanovic, as well as Milorad Dodik, although he does not hold any public office.
