The export of weapons and ammunition from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) exceeded 400 million BAM for the first time last year, amounting to 407.5 million BAM.
This represents an impressive growth of 27.3% compared to the previous year. It is worth noting that in 2023, the export of these products also grew at a similar rate of 26.1%.
Thus, this growth was not only repeated but also increased in 2024, which became the best year in the history of BiH‘s defense industry.
This industrial sector has now become one of the main drivers of the BiH economy, particularly in terms of exports, given that most of the production is destined for foreign markets.
It should be emphasized that a significant portion of production comes from the Federation of BiH (FBiH), where numerous successful companies are on the rise, while in the Republika Srpska(RS), it is largely centered around one company – Tehnicki Remont Bratunac.
In the FBiH, leading companies include those majority-owned by the FBiH, such as Igman Konjic, Pretis Vogosca, Unis Ginex Gorazde, Binas Bugojno, BNT-TMiH Novi Travnik, etc. There is also Pobjeda from Gorazde, which is privately owned.
Additionally, as recently reported exclusively, plans are underway to build new defense industry factories in cantons where they do not currently exist. According to information, this primarily refers to the Tuzla Canton (TC) and the Una-Sana Canton (USC), but the possibility of projects in the Herzegovina region is not excluded.
