13014800_1154046191313002_2039948522_nCroatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović stated yesterday in Mostar that there are many challenges ahead of the countries of the region which must cooperate and work together in order to overcome the differences.

“There are many challenges ahead of the countries of the region which must cooperate and work together in order to overcome those differences, actually the disagreements that exist, and they must show mutual respect within the framework of good neighborly relations. However, we all must take care about making it all beneficial for all our citizens and countries; we as politicians should behave responsibly and try to jointly solve any controversial points,” Grabar-Kitarović added.

Commenting on the cooperation between the countries in the region, Grabar-Kitarović pointed out that she believes that in the past year, year and a half there have been some difficulties that must be overcome.

“The fact is that we had elections in various countries, and as you know, the rhetoric always becomes stronger in the time of elections. I hope we will settle those tensions and jointly face the mutual security threats,” Grabar-Kitarović said.

“If you take a closer look on relationships in the southeast of Europe some twenty, twenty five years ago, you will see that we achieved a significant progress. Of course, there are always periods when, unfortunately, you can go back,” the Croatian President added.

Grabar-Kitarović reiterated that it is no secret that she is surprised, very negatively, with the level of political dialogue, mutual disrespect, division and ideologizing of absolutely every aspect of life.

At the same time, according to Grabar-Kitarović, the countries in the region must focus on existential issues.

“All in all, it is possible and I believe that huge steps forward will be made,” Grabar-Kitarović highlighted and announced the next meeting of the process Brdo Brijuni in Sarajevo in May.

“I believe that we will discuss numerous aspects important for our relations,” the Croatian President pointed out.
