Popular food guide TasteAtlas dedicated a post to Eid al-Adha on Instagram today, highlighting some of the traditional dishes prepared around the world during this holiday. Among them are dishes from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The post also featured some traditional dishes from Morocco, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Lebanon, Iran, Somalia, Egypt, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and Malaysia.

“More than 1.9 billion Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Adha, one of the most important holidays in Islam. This holiday marks the end of the hajj and is marked primarily by prayer, family gatherings, charity and shared meals,” they said at the beginning of the post.

They point out that in many countries, the morning begins with a joint prayer, followed by visits to relatives and long festive lunches prepared for the entire family.

“Lamb, beef, rice dishes, soups, pastries and sweets take center stage, while homes are open all day for guests, neighbours and friends. In many cultures, food is also prepared and shared with those in need as part of the celebration,” they added.

Thus, the list of traditional dishes for Eid in Bosnia and Herzegovina includes: lamb on a spit, Bosnian lonac, burek and begova čorba, while the desserts include baklava, tufahija and kadaif.

Of course, it is important to note that everyone has a different tradition and that the choice of dishes can vary “from house to house”. For example, some of the dishes that are also very often part of the Eid table are sogan dolma, sarma, tarhana soup, veal under a sača, sirnica, zeljanica, krompiruša, hurmašica and tulumba.
