When to expect Law on Diaspora to be enacted?

Law on Diaspora of B&H bigportal.baOn June 30th, the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of B&H adopted the initiative of the representative Denis Becirovic for preparing and delivering to the parliamentary procedure the Draft Law on Diaspora of B&H.

At the last session, the Council of Ministers of B&H considered this initiative and tasked the Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees of &H to create a policy framework on the Diaspora, which should be a basis for legal defining of this matter.

As a reminder, in March 2010 the Council of Ministers of B&H discussed the Draft law on establishment of cooperation between B&H and the Diaspora, prepared by the relevant ministry. Most of the members were against the adoption of this draft.

The second attempt experienced a similar fate, when a group of representatives in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of B&H submitted to the consideration the Draft law on emigration. The House of Representatives rejected this draft at the session held on June 30th 2010. The reasons for rejection remained unknown.

Around two million people from B&H live outside of BH borders, which ranks B&H first in Europe among developing countries and seventh in the world according to the number of emigrants in relation to its population. BH immigrants are hoping to finally get a legislative solution that would bring them closer to their home country and show that BH authorities have an ear for their needs.
