When will the European Commission give Opinion on BiH’s Application?

It is expected that the European Commission will give an opinion on BiH’s application for membership in the European Union on 29 May 2019, was confirmed to Klix.ba by the Director of the Directorate for European Integration (DEI) BiH Edin Dilberovic.

Dilberovic told Klix.ba that according to the announcements, the European Commission’s Extension Package containing reports for candidate and potential candidate countries will be announced by a mid-next week or 29 May 2019.

“It is common practice that the Country Membership Opinion, together with an analytical report, is published within the Enlargement Package. We expect that such practice will be in the case of BiH, but the final decision on the announcement is made by the European Commission,” Dilberovic said.

In anticipation of expectations, Director DEI said that this formal step is going to be completed by each country in the process of accession and whose task is a detailed assessment of the fulfillment of EU membership criteria.

“As the Opinion on the country’s membership request is the most comprehensive analysis of the country’s situation, we expect that we will get a rating of where we are, and where we should be better, and expect that opinion also serves policies and institutions as a clear guideline in future tasks, said Dilberovic.
