Bosnia and Herzegovina has taken a lot of concrete steps towards the realization of 14 key priorities of the European Commission since receiving candidate status for EU membership in December last year, but it is important that before the publication of the Commission’s new report it takes a few more concrete steps in fulfilling the priorities, the Directorate for European integration /DEI/ of Bosnia and Herzegovina said.
The Directorate for SRNA states that, according to the latest announcements, the publication of the European Commission’s report on BiH is expected at the beginning of November and that they have timely delivered to the Commission the Attachment of Institutions in BiH and its amendment, which was previously adopted by the Council of Ministers of BiH.
Along with the mentioned documents, information on all the concrete steps taken to implement the 14 key priorities from the Opinion and other recommendations are submitted to the Commission in all regular contacts and meetings, DEI added.
Evaluating that in the last 10 months, since obtaining candidate status, Bosnia and Herzegovina has taken a lot of concrete steps towards the realization of 14 key priorities, the DEI reminds of the adopted amendments to the Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, the Law on the Ombudsman for Human Rights and the Law on foreigners, and the new Law on Free Access to Information.
In this period, the Strategy for the fight against organized crime was also adopted, and cooperation with Europol became operational.
“A lot of work was also done on the implementation of other recommendations of the European Commission, such as the adoption of the law on the organization of the wine market. A certain number of steps were taken last year as well, and among the most important are the holding of general elections, the adoption of amendments to the Law on Public Procurement, and “several strategies important for better management of public finances, improvement of human rights protection and fight against terrorism have been adopted,” DEI added.
From this directorate, they state that it would be good for politicians and institutions in BiH to use the time until the publication of this year’s report to take a few more concrete steps towards the realization of 14 key priorities, the most significant of which would be the adoption of the Law on the Courts of BiH and the Law on Conflict of Interest at the level of BiH , and the finalization of the program for the integration of BiH into the EU.
This year’s Report is particularly important for Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens, as it is the first Report after Bosnia and Herzegovina received candidate status in December last year, DEI concludes, Srna reports.
