United States President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump were rushed from the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday night, April 25, after a man opened fire at a security checkpoint, officials said.
The suspect fired a shotgun at a Secret Service agent but was arrested. Trump later said the injured officer was protected by body armor and was in good condition, Reuters reported.
Officials said the suspect acted alone. Police said he was armed with a shotgun, a pistol and multiple knives.
A surveillance camera footage released by Trump shows the suspect running through the screening area before agents drew their weapons.
The event, which was attended by about 2,600 people, was canceled. Trump later said federal agents had raided the suspect’s home in California.
