WHO Chief warns of imminent Famine in Northern Gaza

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Saturday of an escalating crisis in northern Gaza, highlighting that famine in the region is imminent.

“Deeply alarming,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on X, referencing new findings from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).

The data, he noted, indicates a “high likelihood that famine is imminent in areas within the northern Gaza Strip.”

“We call for an urgent increase and safe access to humanitarian aid – primarily food and medicines for severe malnutrition – within days, not weeks,” Ghebreyesus urged.

In defiance of a United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, Israel has continued its brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since October 7th, 2023.

Israeli attacks have killed more than 43.550 Palestinians and injured 102.700, displacing nearly the entire population amid a blockade that has led to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.

Israel faces genocide charges at the International Court of Justice(ICJ) for its actions in Gaza.
