WHO: Nearly everyone in the Gaza Strip is starving

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that nearly everyone in the Gaza Strip is starving, calling the situation “inhumane.”

“WHO calls for immediate access to all humanitarian aid, starting with food and medicine for severely malnourished children in urgent need of treatment,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote on X.

The WHO continues to advocate for a ceasefire, adding that “peace is the best remedy.”

Since 2006, Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza, turning the region into what many describe as the world’s largest open-air prison.

Israel resumed its offensive on Gaza after a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on October 7th of last year, despite a United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire.

Since then, over 42.400 people, mostly women and children, have been killed, and more than 99.100 have been injured, according to local health authorities.

The Israeli assault has displaced nearly the entire population of Gaza amid the ongoing blockade, which has caused severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine.

Israel faces genocide charges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for its actions in Gaza.
