Why and how long are the waiting Lists for hiring a Craftsman in BiH?

It has long been difficult to find a quality craftsman in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). On the other hand, citizens complain that even when they do find a craftsman, they wait several months for his arrival. Why and how long are the waiting lists for hiring a craftsman in BiH?

There is almost no citizen of BiH who does not have a phone number of a handyman, electrician, plumber, or tiler. However, the arrival of a craftsman sometimes takes months. Any kind of construction work in their homes has become a real headache for citizens because there are no craftsmen or there is a long wait for their arrival.

Tilers and house painters in our country have “waiting lists” of several months each. There is a slightly shorter wait for electricians, but they are also very difficult to find.

“Craftsmen go to the labor market of Western Europe. The salary is not a problem, on the contrary, all our estimates and contacts with employers in large companies show that they can earn much more here than they can earn in the West,” says Nedeljko Rebic, an electrician.

Judging by the data on the number of enrolled students, there is no lack of interest in craft occupations. There is also support in the form of scholarships. The problem is – what after school? For most, the goal is the same. Although high-quality craftsmen in BiH can earn more monthly than doctors, the trend of leaving is inexorable. Despite the rising prices of services on the domestic market, for many, going abroad is an even better option.
