Today we would like to answer question number three: “Why does EUFOR need to use armoured vehicles in urban areas?, it was stated on the EUFOR official website.
The citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina can expect to see an increased number of patrols, EUFOR said earlier.
“According to our recent press release and social media announcements regarding the activation of 500 EUFOR reserve forces, BiH citizens can expect to see an increase in EUFOR patrols,” EUFOR said in a statement.
As they stated, they have members from 19 participating countries, and the staff that performs operational patrols is mostly from Austria, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Slovakia.
“The deployment of these forces is a precautionary measure taken to strengthen stability in BiH, by positioning a sufficient number of capable forces in the country to support BiH institutions in maintaining a secure and stable environment. Their task will be to show the EU’s determination to maintain stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina, “EUFOR said.
After the contingent of EUFOR forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) became richer a few days ago by 500 members of the reserve forces of this organization, a decision was made on the final deployment of these troops on the territory of BiH.
The Ministry of Defense of BiH has signed a decision to make the barracks of the Armed Forces of BiH in Prijedor and Bijeljina available to EUFOR.
Consequently, 500 members of the EUFOR reserve force will be deployed in the northeast and north of BiH.
It is important to note that in the last few days the continuous arrival of EUFOR soldiers and armored vehicles could be seen in BiH. Five days ago, EUFOR also announced that all 500 members of this organization had arrived in BiH and that they would work to strengthen security in the country.
”The deployment of troops and their equipment, including light armored vehicles, is a precautionary and proportionate measure that demonstrates EUFOR’s determination to support our partners in BiH in maintaining a secure environment,” EUFOR said in a statement.
To recall, after Russia invaded Ukraine, military forces in Europe are being reorganized to maintain the security of all countries. Accordingly, EUFOR has sent additional troops to BiH from Austria, Bulgaria, Romania, and Slovakia, with motorized platoons arriving.
The security situation in Europe is considered disturbed, but it is stated that there are no open threats in BiH. EUFOR said that in addition to what has arrived in BiH so far, another 3.500 reserve troops are on alert and can be deployed at any time.
