“Women’s Peace Caravan” Tomorrow in Sarajevo

zenski_karavan_miraThe “Women’s Peace Caravan” will be held tomorrow in Sarajevo. It is a central meeting in which around 150 female activists from 12 Bosnian towns will participate in order to draw attention to the women killed or hurt during the war in B&H.

This event will be organized within the project “Peace in the female gender – empowering women to face the past” which is implemented in cooperation og the women’s association “Lara” from Bijeljina and “HO Horizonti” from Tuzla and financially supported by the Swedish foundation “KvinnatillKvinna” – was communicated from the foundation “Cure”.

The participants of the meeting, representing 12 towns will start this peaceful walk from the Economic Faculty in Sarajevo.

The peaceful caravan will stop in front of the Sarajevo City Centre so that two representatives could hand in the request for marking the “Remembrance day of the women misfortune during the war in B&H” at the protocol of the B&H Parliament.

“Peace in female gender” symbolizes long lasting efforts of the female activists in B&H to overcome the physical and symbolic barriers that came with the war and are underlined with terms of “Peace”. It’s a way for the women to take active participation in the peace building process so that their side of the war could also be recognized and that their heroism in surviving war accidents, crimes over women could be recognized.

The war in B&H was not only a military conflict for which we haven’t yet found a name or character. It changed radically the lives of million men and women in our country. For the two past decades, the war experience of the women in B&H was not being discussed of. They are being used as means of a political promotion only. – was communicated by the organizers.

The “Peace in female gender – empowering women to face the past” project is being implemented since 2013. Other organizations involved in the acitivities of the project are: “Glas žene” from Bihać, the Foundation “Udružene žene” from Banja Luka, the Helsinki Parliament of the citizens of Banja Luka, the association of women “Grahovo” from Bosansko Grahovo, Centre for Judicial Help to women from Zenica, the “Cure” Foundation from Sarajevo, “Žena B&h” from Mostar, the association of women “Most” from Višegrad, “Women’s forum” from Bratunac and the association of citizens “Budućnost” from Modriča.
