Construction works on certain sections of Corridor Vc in Bosnia and Herzegovina are temporarily suspended due to significant outstanding debts to contractors and suppliers involved in the highway project.
According to multiple sources familiar with the implementation of the projects, companies engaged on key sections – particularly Medakovo – Ozimica and Medakovo – Putnikovo Brdo – are owed sums amounting to hundreds of millions of convertible marks. The delays in payments have intensified tensions between investors and contractors, raising concerns about the continuity of works.
Information obtained by Klix.ba suggests that regular tranche payments have not been disbursed for some time. Sources indicate that the issue stems from creditors failing to release loan funds earmarked for financing Corridor Vc projects.
The situation is reportedly linked to ongoing scrutiny and investigations into the operations of Autoceste FBiH. In previous months, there were calls for corrections and the elimination of irregularities in procurement procedures and contractor selection for certain sections of the corridor.
At the end of December last year, Autoceste FBiH stated that financing for Corridor Vc had not been suspended and that credit arrangements with the European Investment Bank remain in force. The company emphasized that funds are still available under signed agreements, and that any delays are due to technical and administrative procedures rather than a financial blockade.
They also stressed ongoing communication with international financial institutions and reiterated that Corridor Vc remains a strategic infrastructure priority for the country.
Corridor Vc is considered the most significant infrastructure project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and any halt in construction could further delay its completion and impact the country’s broader economic and transport development plans.
