As part of efforts to promote cultural dialogue between Algeria and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Algerian Embassy in Sarajevo, in cooperation with the Faculty of Philosophy and Languages at the University of Sarajevo, organized a joint celebration on the occasion of World Arabic Language Day, observed annually on December 18.

The event witnessed a remarkable attendance by members of the administrative and academic staff of the faculty, as well as distinguished participation by students, reflecting the growing status of the Arabic language and the increasing interest it enjoys within Bosnian academic circles.

With regard to the theme of the event, H.E. the Ambassador recalled Algeria’s prominent and pioneering role in leading international efforts that resulted in the adoption of Arabic as an official and working language within the United Nations system, stemming from its deep conviction in the importance of linguistic and cultural diversity as a fundamental means of promoting dialogue and mutual understanding among nations.

In his address on this occasion, the Algerian Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Meraimi, emphasized the depth and strength of the historical and human ties linking Algeria and Bosnia and Herzegovina. He highlighted the ongoing efforts aimed at elevating bilateral cooperation to broader and more comprehensive horizons, in line with the will of the authorities of both countries and the aspirations of the two friendly peoples.

The Ambassador also underlined Algeria’s firm commitment to strengthening its presence and intensifying cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina in various fields, particularly cultural, scientific, and academic ones, considering them essential pillars for reinforcing bridges of understanding and rapprochement between peoples.

The celebration also featured a variety of cultural, literary, and artistic activities, including poetry readings and recitations in Arabic. One poem was dedicated to Algeria in tribute to its struggle and rich history of sacrifices, which was warmly received by the audience and reflected the profound appreciation and respect Algeria enjoys within Bosnian academic and cultural circles.

On the sidelines of the event, H.E. the Algerian Ambassador held informal discussions with several professors and students, during which views and ideas were exchanged on ways to enhance and promote cultural and scientific cooperation between the two countries. He also listened to their aspirations regarding future prospects of this cooperation and the added value it could bring to academic and intellectual exchange.

In this context, the Ambassador stressed the importance of establishing sustainable institutional partnerships between universities and higher education institutions in both countries, in order to stimulate cultural and scientific exchange and the sharing of expertise and knowledge. He reaffirmed that the Algerian authorities attach great importance to strengthening and developing cooperative relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, based on a vision founded on mutual respect and shared interests, in a manner that serves peace, development, and international cooperation.
