The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced that 15 teams applied for one of the four invitations to perform at the World Cup in Spain next year.
The strongest candidates come from Europe-B&H, Finland, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Poland, Russia and Turkey. From North and South America there are request from Brazil, Canada and Venezuela, and from Asia the candidates are China and Qatar, and from Africa, Nigeria is a candidate.
FIBA will reveal the countries that will receive an invitation during the meeting of its Executive Committee, on 1 and 2 February next year in Barcelona. There is also a chance that the Executive Committee would shorten the list of candidates for invitations this month in Buenos Aires.
