aarhusAs a part of marking the World Environment Day, Aarhus Centre BiH, Food Safety Agency of BiH and Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology have organised today in Sarajevo a lecture on genetically modified organisms.

The aim of this lecture, as organisers stated, is to acquaint the public with GMOs and about BiH legislation, because currently there are contradictory opinions and the public is not well informed about that issue.

Coordinator of Aarhus Centre Sabina Jukan said that with this lecture, association supports the initiative of marking the World Environment Day .

She warned that BiH still hasn’t ratified the amendment on GMOs of the Aarhus Convention, noting that Aarhus Centre promotes understanding and application of aforementioned convention.

Representative of the Institute for genetic engineering and biotechnology Adaleta Durmić Pašić noted that today’s lecture was intended to wider public and that as a part of her lecture she’ll try to clarify certain issues.

‘We are in permanent contact with buyers and we’ve noticed that people are not informed enough on GMO. Also, they often refuse information we provide, but if we manage to prove that something is not related to GMOs, people refuse to accept that as a fact’, said Adaleta Durmić Pašić.
