World Singles’ Day celebrated Yesterday: There are over 200.000 of them in BiH

World Singles‘ Day, which is celebrated on November 11th, is an international holiday that celebrates the beauty of single life. It is an ideal opportunity to celebrate your love for friends, family, pets and, above all, yourself.

According to the last population census, the number of single people in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) was 217,613, while, according to the 1991 census, there were 130,222 of them.

It is a common opinion that life in a relationship or marriage is of better quality than single life, that is, that marriage gives a person more pleasure than being single. However, numerous psychological and sociological researches in recent years indicate that this is not exactly the case. According to studies, people who get married don’t automatically end up happier or mentally healthier than when they were single. Marriage can socially limit people, and it does not always represent a happy outcome, as is commonly thought.

It is an obvious fact that more and more people are single, which is also confirmed by international statistics: according to the British Office for National Statistics, in 2015 there were 16.2 million single and 23.7 million married people living in Britain, while in 2002 there were 12.5 million singles and 23 million married. So, in those ten years, the number of married people stagnated or increased only slightly, while the number of single people jumped by as much as a quarter.

Singles’ Day began as an informal celebration at Chinese universities in the 1990s. November 11th was chosen becausethe number 1 symbolizes the individual. In recent years, the celebration has become commercialized and yesterday, the Chinese were a big online shopping spree.

Consumers across China use this day to shop, with many companies offering discounts and special offers to attract shoppers, Klix.ba reports.
