Young Artist Revives Banja Luka Building: I am Spilling my Soul on the Wall

stefan_slikarStudent at the Banja Luka Academy Stefan Mihajlović regularly adorns the wall of the building behind the bookstore of Culture in Banja Luka, right next to a children’s playground. He said that until now he has had problems with the environment, which has reacted violently, but in the end accepted him.

‘’What I drew first was Snoop Dogg, who was more of an experiment. I did not even take it that seriously. I only wanted to see how the environment would react. Then the kids from the neighborhood bought spray and began to sign’’, said Stefan, who showed the scrawled signs on the building. He added: ‘‘to someone this looks like serious anarchy. People positively react when do something over a wall. I just leave my apartment, mostly at night, and I spill my soul on the wall’’, he said.

The wall currently adorns Bob Marley, Snoop Dogg, Bruce Lee, Šiljo and Bata. He said that he is working at nights because it is easier to concentrate, and during the day too many people pass by, which distracts him. So far, he has had a few violations, but he does not give up on his plan.

‘’No one can stop me from doing this. They handed me out penalties, but I do not give up. It is important everyone is now positively responding. The crucial point is for all to approve what I am doing, and that was a drawing of Bate Stojković. I have thought about it for a long time. Snoop and Bob are known by young people, but not older people. An old woman does not know who is Snoop Dogg, but she knows who is Bata’’, he said through a smile.

The aim is to cover the entire wall and thus make one whole, but with lots of different characters. So far he has funded the color, but one day he went from door to door and asked for contributions. He was surprised at what followed.
