Opening of the major urban highway, the largest project implemented in Zenica in recent years, took place at the roundabout at the entrance to Zenica from the highway M17 in the settlement Blatusa, near the newly built fountain.

Among the guests in Zenica were the representatives of the Saudi Fund for Development and the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in BiH who approved the loan for implementation of this project.

The honor of ribbon-cutting was given to the mayor of Zenica, Husejin Smajlovic, and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to BiH, Hani Abdullah M. Mominah.

Mayor of Zenica Husejin Smajlovic through tears said that today’s opening of the GGM is the completion of decades-long work.

“We want to create a space for free activities where the story of GGM fits perfectly. BiH has the capacity and solid resources for the implementation of this and even bigger projects,” said Smajlovic.

Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to BiH, Hani Abdullah M. Mominah at today’s opening ceremony expressed his satisfaction to attend the event whose realization was helped by his government.

“To be optimistic, I am encouraged by the results we achieved, such as this one today in Zenica that will help this city in easier traffic flow and transport of goods,” said Mominah.

Construction of the first section of the GGM started on the 26th of March 2012, and it included the construction of transport infrastructure with a four-lane with the length of 3.2 kilometers. The second section includes the construction of the rural section of 4.6 km from Bojin Vir to the inclusion to the highway on the Corridor 5C, in settlement Drivusa. The project is worth 25 million USD.

After opening of the Major Urban Highway, followed bike ride and gathering of guests in the banquet salon of hotel Zenica.
