SFF coe.intThis year as well, the Sarajevo Film Festival will host thousands of people from the countries of the region, Europe and the world. Director of SFF talked about what they are focused on and who are the real stars that will come to the SFF.

Sarajevo Film Festival will host more than 1.500 guests from 70 countries of the world this year.

Nedim Čengić, Head of the Department for Communication with Guests of the SFF says that preparations for the next SFF begin as soon as the current SFF ends, and lists of invitees for the next year are being made already at the beginning of the new year.

Čengić adds that guests from all parts of the region come to the SFF, as well as guests from Austria to Azarbaijan, and the majority of them come from Turkey, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Albania, Austria…

In addition to the formal festival program, the SFF also organizes several types of excursions for its guests. There is the “Mahala tour” which includes a tour of the old town and autochthonous Sarajevo neighborhoods in evening hours. One excursion includes a tour of the entire old town and one part of the Centar Municipality, and there is also the tour of the Tunnel of Hope. Also attractive is the tour of Mostar, which includes a tour of Old Bridge and other attractions in this city.

Director of the SFF Mirsad Purivatra explains the concept of the Festival, stating that precisely regional stars are in the focus.

“Our red carpet is focused on regional stars and they are our real stars, while the arrival of international stars actually draws attention from our goal, which is the promotion of regional film and promotion of those new stars,” Purivatra says, adding that they wish to promote films from the former Yugoslavia that will have more success in cinemas.

Commenting on the expectations of people of the arrival of “great” stars and world names, Purivatra says that they are not burdened with that and that their wish is to make good and quality local and regional stars and welcome the European stars.

“Our core business is good, quality film and development of audiovisual sector, i.e. film production, so that every man who comes to see the film is the greatest recognition for what we are doing. There are 10-12 big stars known by an ordinary man, but it is important for me that we start watching movies and know that Amat Escalante, Cristi Puiu, Stephen Frears, directors who were presidents of the festival in Cannes, are also stars. For us, stars are Danis Tanović and authors who come with their first films and participate in the competitive program. Those are the future stars,” Purivatra says.
