Kovači Cemetery faktor.baThe event “Defense of BiH – Igman 2016” was opened in the Memorial Center Kovači. For 16 years now, this event marks the memory of all martyrs and killed fighters of BiH and pays tribute for their immeasurable role in the defense of BiH from the aggressors.

At the very beginning of the event, which is being held under the motto “Come and testify”, the Minister for Veterans’ Issues of the Sarajevo Canton Muharem Fišo held a speech. He pointed out that important dates must be marked in order to be saved from oblivion, and he wished that no one ever experiences what BiH did in the period from 1992 until 1995.

“We are traditionally marking the day of victory, the day of magnificent battles of the Army of RBiH, the day of heroism that astonished the entire world. This time, all representatives of the corps are coming to show unity, to show how to love your homeland and to evoke memories,” said Fišo, adding that he is especially proud because young people are involved in this event for the second time this year.

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić said that this and similar events will always be held.

Flowers on Kovači were laid by the federal Minister for Veterans’ Issues and Disabled Veterans of the Defense-Liberation War Salko Bukvarević, who is also the President of the Organization Committee, Vice-President of FBiH Melika Mahmutbegović, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić, Prime Minister of FBiH Fadil Novalić, members of the federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, of Armed Forces of BIH, and armed forces of the Netherlands and the Great Britain.

Flowers were also laid on the grave of the first president of the Presidency of the Republic of BiH Alija Izetbegović.
