Rainy and cold weather did not prevent 102 mountaineers from Sarajevo and other parts of BiH from realizing the New Year’s ascent to the highest peak of Trebević – Sofa (1,629 m/asl).

Braco Babić, one of the guides on that traditional climb, emphasized that the weather was not in their favor, it occasionally rained and there was fog at the top. Nevertheless, there was a good mood among the participants of the ascent, which lasted a total of five hours.

Thus, a long-standing tradition of New Year’s climbs was held, which has been going on since January 1, 1950, organized by the Sarajevo Mountaineering Association of Sarajevo, later the City Mountaineering Association of Sarajevo.

The ascent is traditional and was interrupted only in the period from 1993-1996. year, because of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was restored in 1997 thanks to the enthusiasm of Sarajevo mountaineers Isak Bešić, Kemal Ćustović, Braco Babić and Kemaludin Mutapčić.

This year, the 70th New Year’s hiking climb to the highest peak of Trebević – Sofa (1,629 m/sl) was held, and the guides were Braco Babić and Sedin Salić, with the assistance of 15 mountain guides from the Sarajevo Guide Station, which took over the complete organization of the hike.
