108 Suicides recorded in Montenegro last year

Last year, 108 suicides were committed in Montenegro, and 92 suicide attempts were registered, according to the data of the Police Administration.

The most suicides were recorded in Podgorica – 27, followed by Nikšić 13, Budva and Bijelo Polje 10 each, Berane and Pljevlja eight each, Cetinje five…

“Compared to the previous year, the number of suicides decreased by 13 or by 10.7 percent, while the number of suicide attempts decreased by five or by 5.1 percent. Observed in relation to the five-year period, the growth in the number of suicides stopped (2018 – 109, 2019. – 100, 2020. – 109, 2021. – 120, 2022. – 121, 2023. – 108)”, stated in the report of the Police Administration.

In addition to suicides and attempted suicides, the police also registered 146 accidental deaths, one accident, 296 fires, 76 explosive device finds, 95 accidents at work, as well as 134 other cases with fatal consequences.

During the last year, 21 criminal offenses of human trafficking were detected, which is 75 percent more compared to the comparative period.
