The 14th Ultramarathon Vukovar – Srebrenica started this morning from Ovčara, organized by the Council of the Bosniak National Minority of the City of Zagreb to remind all innocent victims during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, and especially the victims of Vukovar and Srebrenica.

Marathoners will run 227 kilometers in five stages. Other runners will join them on certain sections. The ultramarathoners should arrive in Potočare on July 10, reports HRT.

Participant of this marathon, Mirsad Softić, pointed out that the basic message is that everyone should and must know what Srebrenica is, what Vukovar is, what happened and that it should never be forgotten, while Dražen Ćućić emphasized that thinking about all the victims gives strength to all participants of the Ultramarathon.

The head of the City of Vukovar, Josip Paluš, said that all the citizens of Vukovar are sending a message of peace to Srebrenica, and the advisor for Croatian veterans in the Vukovar-Srijem County, Stjepan Mađarac, stated that this project should be extended to the younger population in order to preserve this marathon and the memory of the mentioned events in the future.
