Average of 6,250 Passengers Daily at Sarajevo International Airport

Sarajevo International Airport has seen an increase in passenger numbers in the summer months, especially in July and August, with an average of 6,250 passengers a day in recent days, was stated to Federal News Agency from the Airport Directorate.

It was pointed out that the experiences from the previous years show that more passengers arriving to Sarajevo for the Sarajevo Film Festival are arriving just before the beginning, and that a number of private flights are recorded during this period.

Sarajevo International Airport (SIA) welcomed a total of 180,929 passengers in July, a 14.0 percent increase year-on-year, and a total of 218,561 of kilograms of cargo were shipped in July, recording a 6.0 percent increase year-on-year.

The airport saw increase of air operations when in July this year, a total of 1,752 operations were carried out, an 11.0 percent increase year-on-year.

In the first seven months of this year, 638,663 passengers passed through SIA, which is 9.0 percent more than in the same period last year when a total of 589,522 passengers were welcomed.

At the same time, 7,959 aircraft operations were performed, which is 3.0 percent more than in the same period in 2018 when 7,735 were carried out.

In July last year, SIA welcomed 159,380 passengers, while the number of flights carried out was 1,573.

Seven new destinations have been introduced this season, to Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh, Gassim and Jeddah, cities in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait City, capital of Kuwait, Athens, capital of Greece, Berlin, capital of Germany, and Gothenburg, city in Sweden.

Currently, the capital of BiH is connected to a total of 21 cities via direct flights via Sarajevo International Airport: Ljubljana, Belgrade, Vienna, Zagreb, Cologne, Stuttgart, Dubai, Munich, Stockholm, Istanbul, Zurich, Budapest, Kuwait, Riyadh, Doha, Gasim , Jeddah, Athens, Berlin, Gothenburg and Sharjah.

The growth of traffic is continuous from year to year. In 2018, Sarajevo Airport had a total of 1,045,417 passengers.

“For the first half of 2019 (January 1st-June 30th) we had a total of 457,734 passengers. Experiences from the past business years, increased number of tourists, increased traffic show that this year the number of passengers is expected to increase compared to the previous year,” was added from Sarajevo Airport.
