HDZ BiH announced the details from the meeting of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Covic, in Serbia. He met on Monday evening with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and the member of the Presidency of BiH, Milorad Dodik, in Belgrade, where, according to the HDZ, they held a working meeting.
The meeting was held as a continuation of regional talks, and included European integration and the perspective of membership of the two countries in the European Union.
Officials discussed the European Commission’s Enlargement Package and the EU’s Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans.
They also discussed bilateral relations and the upcoming celebration of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
Speaking about the Enlargement Package for 2020, officials stressed the importance of the process of accession to the European Union to maintain a strong European perspective of the region, as well as for further transformation towards building developed and stable countries.
Cooperation with European partners along the way, it was said, will boost desired progress.
”Respecting the commitment to join the Union, they discussed the improvement of regional cooperation and the strengthening of good neighborly relations. Further development of the region and improvement of relations are of great importance for the realization of long-term foreign policy priorities such as EU membership.
Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path is unquestionable, Covic said, stressing the need for a new intensification of efforts on the European path.
”The plan for the economic recovery of the Western Balkans and the development of relations in the region will contribute to economic competitiveness and economic strengthening. The 9 billion-euro EU plan reaffirmed the great efforts of European partners to strengthen the Western Balkans and accelerate recovery from COVID-19 and highlighted the importance of regional co-operation and accelerating economic convergence with the European Union,” it was stated in the press release.
Finally, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, the officials unanimously pointed out that the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina is of great importance for the entire region.
This stability, it was stated, must respect all the constituent peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina, their rights, commitments and legitimate political representatives, who, through the protection of the constitutional order and European values, should ensure a departure from stagnation and ensure joint progress towards stabilization and the EU membership and long-term security and prosperity.
