The Central Election Commission announced today that 48,074 voters registered to vote outside Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e. the diaspora, in the General Election, which is even more than 20,000 fewer than in the 2022 General Election.
As the Central Election Commission announced, there will be 48,074 voters on the voter lists for voting outside the country, while a total of 5,548 applications were rejected. There is now a three-day appeal period, but essentially, this number will not change significantly.
In the 2022 elections, there were 69,872 voters from the diaspora, while 10,749 voters were rejected.
Such a small number of voters could be particularly reflected in the results of pro-Bosnian parties in Republika Srpska. Namely, the Movement for the State, which gathered pro-Bosnian political options, received 36,652 votes in the 2022 elections, of which as many as 8,275 votes were mailed.
This decrease in the number of voters from abroad of 20,000 votes shows the decreasing interest of the diaspora to vote, but also the lack of appropriate campaigns to explain the importance of votes to such voters. Also, one of the factors can be the complicated procedure of voting itself, which in modern times kills people’s will to deal with paperwork.
