thermal-power-plant-kakanjHeating system Kakanj – Sarajevo is financial-market, socio-economic and health-environmental fully justified project, as concluded on the meeting of the delegation of Elektroprivreda BiH and representatives of the Fund for Environmental Protection of the FBiH.

At this meeting, which was held in mid-March, was concluded to immediately start with the realization of the conceptual design with no delay, which is the next big step before the final goal.

“Work on this strategically important project is continued. The realization of the conceptual design is the next step on the ultimate goal – and that is to heat Sarajevo through the pipeline from the TPP Kakanj already in the heating season 2020-2021,” as said from the Fund for Environmental Protection of the FBiH.

With this project will be used the energy produced in TPP Kakanj, that would supply homes of the citizens of Sarajevo, as well as some cities that are located between Kakanj and Sarajevo.

There are several important features of the project. From the aspect of environmental protection is the fact that it carbon emission on an annual basis would be reduced by as much as six million tons.

“Also, there is the economic justification, because the need for purchase of gas would be reduced by approximately 100 million EUR on an annual basis. Also, it would reduce the outflow of funds to suppliers and our dependence on Russian gas,” as said from the Fund for Environmental Protection of the FBiH.

Elektroprivreda BiH was noted as the realizer of the construction of the heating system.

And finally, it should be emphasized that the project of construction of the heating system would cost around 230 million BAM, but since all economic indicators of the project showed to be positive, from Elektroprivreda BiH stated that they are interested in this project if they get support by competent structures of local, cantonal and entity authorities.
