industryBy the decision of the Council of Ministers of B&H on the reduction of customs rates for 54 types of imported goods by the end of 2016, over 25,000 workplaces in the footwear and textile industry will be saved, according to “Vecernji list.”

Chamber of Commerce of Republika Srpska and the FB&H and the Foreign Trade Chamber of B&H welcomed the decision of the Council of Ministers, noting that tens of thousands of workers who are employed in footwear and textile industry will have great benefit from it.

The decision is of great importance for the survival of the metal and electrical industry, as well as part of food industry.

“List” states that the industry of textile, leather and footwear as a significant segment of the manufacturing sector is recording a large increase in B&H.

In the last 5 years, this industry is recording a very good export performance and the coverage of imports by exports is in constant increase, according to the Foreign Trade Chamber of B&H.

Even though the products are usually made for foreign partners, with a very small share in the final product, the Association of tanneries and textile workers of B&H announced a turn in their own production in the upcoming period.

“This is a labor intensive activity where many workers with lower qualification degree and mainly female labor force are hired,” said the president of the Association of the textile, leather and footwear of B&H Amer Medjic.
